Link building tools that find who to ask

Badgerfly's Backlinks group is a set of link building tools for agencies and SEO teams. Backlink Gap and Link Prospector find sites worth asking for a link, from sites linking to competitors to local sponsorships, and two more modules check the links a site already has and catch the ones it loses.

Backlink Gap results: sites that link to competitors and not to the project, sorted into best fit, good fit and long shot

Four modules, from prospect to watch

Module What it does
Backlink Gap Sites that link to competitors and not to the project.
Link Prospector Guest posts, resource pages, sponsorships and more worth asking, nationwide or town by town.
Backlink Audit Every link to the site scored for risk, and the disavow file built from your decisions.
Backlink Monitor Know when the site gains a link, loses one, or a link you paid for disappears.

Backlink Gap: sites already linking to businesses like this one

A site that links to three of a project's competitors is a better bet than a cold list. Backlink Gap is a backlink gap tool built on that idea. Name the competitors and the keywords that matter, and it returns the sites that link to them and not to the project.

Each prospect is scored on:

Prospects are sorted into best fit, good fit and long shot, with flags for quality warnings. Broken links found on a prospect's site are listed too, which gives you a reason to get in touch: a working replacement for a link that no longer goes anywhere.

  • Relevance: how closely the site's subject matches the project's
  • Authority: how much a link from it is worth
  • Overlap: how many of the named competitors it links to

Link Prospector: opportunities a competitor list never shows

Link Prospector needs no competitor data. It searches for opportunities by kind:

  • sponsorships, partner pages, local directories and event calendars
  • guest posts, resource pages, roundups and podcasts
  • press mentions
  • certifications, awards and scholarships

Prospect nationwide or in any market. For local work, each search runs once for every town you list, because most opportunities in a suburb never appear in a search for the main city. Then it reads each page it found to confirm two things: that the page really links out (a page listing its sponsors proves it; a page only asking for sponsors does not yet), and whether the link passes authority. A page that was never read is marked "not checked", which is not the same as a confirmed nofollow.

The result is a list of opportunities that tools built only on competitor data miss, each one checked before it reaches you.

You do the asking

This is link building software for finding and checking, not for sending. Backlink Gap and Link Prospector build and check the list. Contacting the sites, and deciding what to offer them, stays with you and the business you work for. Export the list to CSV and work it the way your team already does.

Backlink Audit: check the links a site already has

Before building new links, know whether any existing ones are a risk. Backlink Audit scores every link pointing at the site from 0 to 100, checks each linking domain against public malware and phishing blocklists, and lets you decide per link: keep, monitor or disavow. The file to send to Google is built from your decisions. See how Backlink Audit works

Backlink Monitor: keep the links you earn

Links disappear. Backlink Monitor compares each check with the one before to show new and lost links. Links you paid for can be added by hand and are verified on every check: still on the page, still pointing at the right address, still followed. If a paid link disappears, an alert says so. How the backlink tools fit together

A typical month runs in order: audit the links the site has, find new prospects in Backlink Gap and Link Prospector, then let the monitor confirm the links you win and catch the ones that drop. New and lost links also show in Alerts across every project, and the rankings and backlinks report template puts the month's link work in front of the business you work for.

What it costs

A monitor's setup states the cost of each check before it starts, and reopening a finished result is free. How tokens work

Questions

What are link building tools?

Tools that find sites likely to link to yours and help you keep the links you get. In Badgerfly, Backlink Gap and Link Prospector find the prospects; Backlink Audit and Backlink Monitor look after the links a site already has.

Does Badgerfly send outreach emails?

No. It finds and checks the prospects. Contacting them is up to you.

Do I need competitor data to find link opportunities?

Not for Link Prospector. It searches by kind of opportunity and by town. Backlink Gap does use competitors: you name them.

What does "passes authority" mean?

A followed link passes authority to the page it points at; a nofollow link asks search engines not to count it. Link Prospector reads each page to tell you which kind you would get.
