TRACKING AND REPORTS
Rank tracking software that labels every number
Badgerfly's Position Tracker is rank tracking software for agencies and SEO teams. It follows a site's Google positions for the keywords you choose, on a schedule, and marks every day's number with its source: Checked, Estimated or Held.

Every number has a source
A position on its own does not tell you whether anyone looked that day. Position Tracker labels every day's number, so a report never passes off a carried-forward figure as a fresh one:
| Source | What it means |
|---|---|
| Checked | Read from a live check on that day. |
| Estimated | Worked out from Search Console data between live checks. |
| Held | No new reading, so the last known position is carried forward. |
A keyword outside the top 100 shows a blank, not an invented number. When you tell the business you work for where it ranks, you can say how that number was obtained.
What the tracker shows
The top of a tracker charts visibility or average position over the date range you pick. Visibility is a click-weighted share across the tracked keywords: a full score would mean every keyword in first place, and a keyword outside the top 100 adds nothing. Below the chart, the keyword table gives each keyword:
The header says when positions were last checked and when the next check is due. Results export to CSV.
- Position, its current Google rank
- Source, Checked, Estimated or Held
- Search features, the special results on that search, such as an AI answer, a block of questions people also ask, a knowledge panel or images
- 1 day, 7 days, 30 days, the change in rank against each of those points (up means improved)
- Best, the top position recorded for it in the tracked period
Nationwide, or from one place
Each tracker follows either the results for a whole country or the results seen from one place, such as the city a business serves. Use nationwide for a site that sells everywhere and a single place for one that works in one area.
Search Console lowers the cost of tracking
Live checks are the expensive part of position tracking. Connect Google Search Console and Position Tracker fills the days between live checks with positions worked out from the site's own search data, labelled Estimated, at a much lower cost than a live check of every keyword every day. Badgerfly's access to Search Console is read-only, and connecting costs nothing. You get a number for every day, and each one is honest about where it came from.
Bring your rank history with you
Earlier rank history can be imported from a CSV (keyword, date, position and, if you have it, the URL) or another rank tracker's Excel export, so a project that moves to Badgerfly keeps its trend line instead of starting the chart from the day you set it up. Imported rows never overwrite a position Badgerfly checked itself.
From research to tracker
Keywords reach the tracker from the rest of the workspace. Tick keywords in Keyword Research and save them to a tracker, or send a whole list from Keyword Lists with one button that states the monthly cost first. Keyword Cannibalization offers to track the searches two of your pages are fighting over, so you can see whether the fix held.
Ranking moves, without checking every tracker
Once a day, after rankings update, Alerts looks at what the trackers found and raises an alert for a ranking move or a new competitor in the top three. The Dashboard shows each project's 30-day average position line and the biggest ranking moves of the last 14 days, so a keyword rank tracker for one site becomes a view across every site you manage. Rankings drop straight into Reports, with a ready-made rankings and backlinks template.
What it costs
Scheduled checks use tokens, with the monthly cost shown before you add keywords, and if tokens run out the tracker pauses and picks up again on its own, with nothing lost. How tokens work
Questions
What is rank tracking software?
Software that checks where a site ranks in search results for chosen keywords and records the change over time, sometimes called a SERP tracker. Position Tracker also records how each day's number was obtained.
What do Checked, Estimated and Held mean?
Checked is a live check that day. Estimated is worked out from Search Console between live checks. Held is the last known position carried forward because there was no new reading.
Do I need to connect Search Console?
No. Connecting it fills the days between live checks from the site's own data and lowers the cost of tracking.
How often are positions checked?
On a schedule. Each tracker shows when it last checked and when the next check is due.
Can I bring rank history from an earlier tool?
Yes. Import a CSV of keyword, date and position, or another rank tracker's Excel export.
