BACKLINKS

Find backlink opportunities of every kind

Link Prospector finds backlink opportunities by kind: guest posts, resource pages, roundups, podcasts, press, sponsorships, event calendars, awards, directories and more. Set where to look, from a few towns to the whole country, and it checks every page it finds for links out and whether they pass authority.

Link Prospector results: prospects by kind of link, with fit, town, whether the page links out, and authority

Why prospecting is slow by hand

Good link opportunities are scattered: a resource page on a trade association's site, a roundup that updates every year, a podcast that interviews people in the industry, a festival's list of sponsors. Finding them means running dozens of searches, opening every result, and checking whether the page actually links to the sites it mentions and whether those links are followed. Done by hand, one kind of opportunity in one market is an afternoon.

Link Prospector does the searching and the checking, and hands you a list that is already sorted.

Pick the kind of link you want

Instead of working back from a competitor's links, you start with the kind of opportunity you want and only the searches that find it are run. Twelve target types, in four groups:

Group Target types
Local and community sponsorships, partner pages, local directories, event calendars
Editorial guest posts, resource pages, roundups, podcasts
Press press mentions
Credentials certifications, awards, scholarships

Each target type has its own search patterns, such as a page titled "write for us", "resources" or "sponsors". Run one type for a focused campaign, or several at once.

Choose where to look

Prospect nationwide for editorial links like guest posts, podcasts and roundups, or narrow it to the market a business serves. For local work, list the towns around the business, not just the main city: each search pattern then runs once per town, because most suburb opportunities never show up in a search for the city itself. The results show the town each prospect was found in.

Before anything runs, you see the exact number of searches, the locations and the cost, and the search queries themselves are shown word for word rather than described. Nothing paid starts without a button.

Every page is checked before it reaches your list

Finding a page is not the same as finding a link. Link Prospector opens each page it finds and checks two things:

  • Does it link out? A page that lists its sponsors or contributors with links proves it links. A page that only asks for them does not yet.
  • Is the link followed? Whether the link passes authority. A page that was never read is marked "not checked", which is kept separate from a confirmed nofollow, so a gap in the data never looks like a no.

Pages that already link to your site are counted too, so you are not chasing a link you have.

A list sorted for outreach

Each prospect is sorted into a fit band (best fit, good fit or long shot) with the page title, the kind of link, where it was found, how many sites the page links out to, and an authority figure. Start with the best fits that already link out with followed links: those are the pages most likely to add one more. Export the list to CSV to work it in your outreach tool of choice.

Why it complements Backlink Gap

Backlink Gap starts from competitors: sites that link to them and not to you. Link Prospector starts from the kind of link you want and needs no competitor data at all. That makes it the one to use for a new site with nothing to compare against, a niche where competitors have thin link profiles, or a campaign built around one type of link. It is also the more focused of the two, because it runs only the searches for the opportunity types you choose.

For an agency, "find guest post and podcast opportunities in this industry" or "find sponsorships across this metro" becomes a concrete campaign a junior team member can work from, instead of a research task that still needs interpreting.

What it costs

A run uses tokens for the searches it makes, and reopening a finished run costs nothing. How tokens work

Questions

Is it only for local links?

No. Prospect nationwide or in any market. Local work is where listing several towns pays off most, but guest posts, resource pages, roundups, podcasts and press are found wherever you point it.

Do I need competitor data to use it?

No. Link Prospector starts from the kind of link you want, so it works for a brand new site with no backlink profile.

How do I know a prospect will actually give a link?

Every page is opened and checked for links out and whether they are followed. A page that already lists sponsors or contributors with followed links is the strongest sign it will add another.

Does it send outreach emails?

No. It finds and checks the opportunities and exports the list; the outreach is yours.
